FYI...We will be working with U.K. International again this season. We have listened to your feedback as well as the staff at UKI and made some adjustments to our program this year. We have divided our program into two time slot and have capped our enrollment at 60 players. There will be three coaches from UKI working with your young players providing a ratio of 1:10 in order to provide the best experience for your child.
WGDRSC is excited to announce our partnership with U.K. International and our new format for our recreation program beginning in the fall of 2014.
Who: Children in Grades K- 2 with the support of you as a volunteer coach and the coaches from U.K. International
What: UKI will provide age appropriate skills training using the Centralized Coaching Method. This method allows the UKI coach to oversee practice for 3/4 teams at once. A skill will be modeled and then practiced by the teams under the support and supervision of both UKI and our volunteer coach. Games will follow practices and will be 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 formats as recommended by UKI for this age group.
Where: The program will take place at Highcrest School in the fall and Fuller Field in the spring.
When: All programs will take place on Saturday and will run for six weeks. Our fall program begins September 13th and our spring program begins the end of April 2015. Registration for our spring program begins January 1st. Each program will be separated by grade and will run for approximately 90 minutes. (Practice and game time)
Programs run from 9/13/2014-10/25/2014 (no Columbus Day Weekend) Practices will take place in the open space in front of baseball diamond at Highcrest School. The games will be on lined fields to the left and right of the baseball diamond.
For all programs: Players need a size 3 soccer ball, a water bottle, shin guards and sneakers or cleats.
Volunteer coaches will be in touch with players in the K-2 programs to let them know what team they have been assigned to at the end of the month.
Why: To provide the same quality instruction to all our young soccer players.
How can you help?
WGDRSC is a volunteer based organization. Although we have hired UKI to oversee our recreation programs, we still need YOU! Please consider coaching your child's team.
****We need assistant coaches for Kindergarten and head and assistant coaches for Grade1 and 2. ****
Please contact us ASAP if you are interested. Teams and game schedules cannot be created until our coaches are in place.
Wethersfield U16 Boys, coached by Stathis Manousos and Jim McAlister, took on 19 other teams from across the state this Spring. Wethersfield's Warriors won a 4-2 victory over Westport at the final game played in Farmington on June 14.
