Hi Parents,

     In the past, the club has been very informal with dates. Since much of the registration work, roster formation, payments, and scheduling was done on paper and individual spreadsheets, making changes was fairly simple and this method worked fairly well. Now that we have gone to a predominantly 'online' system and extended the registration period, that system does not work so well. Beginning with the Spring 2012 registration, everyone will register online, and even more rostering and scheduling will be done in this manner as well. While we will have an in-person registration on February 2nd, 2012 at Pitkin Community Center, computers and internet connections will be provided onsite for folks to enter their info into our online system. We will accept checks at that time, but only on that night. Because of the new online system, we have been able to extend the registration period from January only to January and February (*Late fees apply after February 2nd). However, since we are registering folks until the end of February, we have only about a month left to square away all details (teams, coaches, schedules, fields ....) for the upcoming Spring season. Consequently, if you miss sign-ups for the Spring, there will be no mechanism to get your children into our system and onto a roster. Once again, instead of the traditional Spring registration period of January, the club will be taking registrations up until the end of February this year (**late fees apply after Feburary 2nd) which leaves us just over a month to get rosters done, order shirts, and schedule games. We would still like folks to register in January as it helps our directors plan for the upcoming season. We know that not too many folks are thinking about playing soccer in January and February in New England, so please mark your calendars now so that you do not forget to register.

     The rec division has also had some issues in the past with late registrations, team formations, and finding coaches for late registrants. In the past several players have simply been added to existing teams as coaches were not available. This caused rosters to swell to numbers that we a little too high (limiting the amount of time for all players) This year they will be 'waitlisting' players after an estimated quota is reached. WGDRSC 2012 Valentine's Dance Friday, February 10th, 2012 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM Keeney Memorial Cultural Center      200 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT Tickets are $30 each ​ The dance will be hosted by DJ Demetri and DJ Nicknakis and it is BYOB (bring your own setups). The food is being catered by Mangia Bene of Rocky Hill. The buffet dinner will consist of their wonderful chicken cutlets with an assortment of seasonal grilled vegetables, penne a ala vodka, cranberry bleu cheese salad served with their homemade champagne vinaigrette dressing and fresh rolls. ​      The WGDRSC Valentine's Dance is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Wethersfield Soccer club and it helps to offset registration fees and purchase equipment year to year for the kids. The 2011 dance was very successful and everyone that attended had a great time. Please consider purchasing tickets for a wonderful and local evening out this February right here in Wethersfield. You can dance, sing (maybe not), have some great food, meet some new people and perhaps you will be lucky enough to take home one of our fine raffle baskets!!       If you haven't registered for Spring Soccer yet, then that process will ask you if you would like to purchase tickets at that time. If you have already registered for Spring rec or travel soccer, then you can revisit the registrations and choose  WGDRSC 2012 Valentine's Dance (or just click that link). Tickets will also be available at Charles Wright practices from January 23rd to January 27th for anyone interested in purchasing them in person. EARLY PURCHASERS AUTOMATICALLY ENTERED INTO RAFFLE FOR TWO CHANCES FOR FREE FALL SOCCER REGISTRATION!!      If you purchase dance tickets before February 1st (online or in-person) then you will automatically be entered into a raffle for TWO grand prizes of FREE FALL 2012 SOCCER REGISTRATIONS*. Registration for the Spring Season Has Begun!!
     Please remind your teammates, family members, friends, neighbors, and classmates that Spring soccer registration has begun!! You can register online for any program for all of January and late fees do apply after February 2nd, 2012, so register soon (Junior and Senior rec soccer program registration ends on February 2nd). Just click on either REGISTER NOW buttons to the right to register. There is more info on Registrations below, including the email addresses for the director of each rec program. Please contact them if you have any questions about individual programs.

Team and Club Level Sponsors Wanted for Spring 2012!!


     If you own a local business (small or large) or have a friend, neighbor, or co-worker that is looking for more visibility in the Wethersfield area, then we hope you might consider becoming a sponsor for one of our rec teams or our entire club.

     We have approximately 900 kids in our program which makes us the largest youth sports organization in Wethersfield and one of the largest in Greater Hartford. Hi Folks!

     We have just launched Wethersfield Pre-K Soccer on Twitter. We hope you will follow us throughout the season. This Twitter account will provide updates and info all Spring to make it easier to coordinate this program. The url is https://twitter.com/PreKSoccer06109. If people find this very useful, then perhaps we will do this for other divisions.

     Our division filled up quickly and we would LOVE to offer a second session, but we need 30 more registrations. If you register for this program, you will simply be placed into a section waitlist until we get 30 additional members (we have 5 already as of 1/20/2012). Once we do, we will open the program and all members will then be added and eligible to pay their registration fee. Remember, you are officially registered after you have signed up online and paid your registration fee. If you have not signed up yet but you are thinking about it, please don't wait!! If you miss the first section then you may have to think about recruiting additional Pre-K soccer enthusiasts to make sure your child has a spot for the Spring ..... we will take care of the coaches and staff, but we need kids!!

2012 Green Mountain Challenge (June 16th - 17th, Weston, VT) It looks like the Green Mountain Challenge is back on. The fields in Weston, VT were severely damaged by the flooding and erosion caused by Hurricane Irene, but the Southern Vermont Fusion club has been scrambling to repair the fields and find alternate sites. While the games may be a little more distributed this year it looks like they will hold the tournament again on Father's Day Weekend (June 16th and 17th), so save the date!

2012 SoccerPalooza Kick-It 3-v-3 Tournament (June 23rd - 24th, Mill Woods Park) SoccerPalooza will be back in Wethersfield for it's 3rd year this year! Despite the downpours at last year's event, it was a monumental success for all of the particpants as well as WGDRSC. Consequently, the 2012 tournament will now span 2 days to accomodate the expected number of teams. Plan to play on Saturday and Sunday this year and make sure you book early so your team(s) are not shut out. More details to follow in the next few months, so check back often!
